Who's Lost???
How do you share Jesus (another way of saying, "evangelism") with people? Most followers of Jesus get freaked out about telling others. Maybe that's the problem - we do to much talking and not enough listening. I'm moved by the music video of "Take You Back" by Jeremy Camp. It's a musical rendition of Luke 15 and the lost son. (In reality both sons are "lost.") In Luke 15, Jesus uses the word "lost." But in today's culture the idea of "lost" can signify superiority of the ones who are "found." Thus we need to be careful of the words we use. More than one sheep, one coin, or one son being lost, is the passion that is seen in the ones doing the searching. The "lost" were treasured! When something is treasured, you see great value in that item or person. This is what we need when sharing Jesus with others. The "lost" are treasured and are people that Jesus misses being with. With that in mind, evangelism isn't something memorized or forced on the "lost." This is critical when we who serve Jesus to young people through Campus Life. To share Jesus is to listen, pray for, eat with, be with, and yes, share what it means to connect with Jesus. But don't miss the big point - evangelism is simply caring for and loving your neighbor. So you probably are doing more "evangelism" than you realized! I think praying with people is more effective than preaching to people. It shows you care and people sense you "treasure" them. Well, what do you think? How do you share Jesus? What's scares you about sharing Jesus with others? How do you let people know that you treasure them?

As for the evangelizing term "fire insurance", I've come up with my understanding. For those that need to hear about God, they shouldn't look at it as an act of escaping hell, but as a joy and passion of serving God. Some need the brimstone, most do not. So many people fall through the cracks saying, I am saved and then not living the life. If they are passionate for God through their salvation, then better result could apply. For us that are evangelizing, we need to have in our mind set the fire that is in their future. We don't wish that on anyone, and that sould motivate any Christian to evangelize.
Don't think of it as escaping something, but rather gaining everything.
Sharing Jesus is a really hard topic to approach. I sometimes wish there was a method to something like that, partly because it is something we are struggling with in Cru. How do we go about being more active with our faith. A lot of good points toward this are listed here. Eating with, being friendly, everything like that, yes it is important, but then what. One thing I appreciate about Cur and think we will use more in the future is the 4 Quick Questions Survey. It asks simple probing questions about students, and gives us an idea as to weather they are spiritually seeking and need follow up, might want to become involved in our club... it kind of gives us a (very unspecific) idea what their story is. I wish I knew another way though, that I could talk to and get to know more people at college... that we as a club could foster stronger relationships, and share Gods love with everyone.
