$50 Stew
Monday at Club 56 I used an object lesson known as the $50 stew. I took a large glass bowl and placed it in the middle of the table. As soon as I brought out the stew items, the kids crowded around the table. I commented I'd watched the Food Channel and saw this recipe on a show. After placing the $50 bill at the bottom of the bowl, I added black olives, sardines, sauerkraut, ketchup, and raw hamburger. I took my hands and began mixing the stew. Soon it smelled a little funny and looked disgusting. I remarked how I must of not caught all the directions in making this stew. Next I threatened to throw it away. The kids yelled out not to. Why not?" I asked. "There's a fifty dollar bill in the stew," they shouted. "But's it smells and it's disgusting." Then I shared Genesis 1:26 and 27... "Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." So God created man in his own image,in the image of God he created him..." God tells us that everyone bears His image. No matter if the person smells, is disgusting, and is different. That person has value. So don't throw people out just because they are different. Jesus says, "Love others." Every person bears His image and is valuable. These are the days my friend.
