Paint

My daughter Elizabeth and her husband, Chris (and little Jacob too!) have purchased a home on Albert St. in Bluffton. Once the papers were signed and a key to the house was obtained, some redecoration was in order. Pat and I were assigned and we heartily agreed to paint the downstairs bathroom. So the past two evenings, Pat and I have been painting and pinching each other in the bathroom. For some of the walls you can use the broad sweep of a paint roller. That was my job. Pat on the other hand, was using a paintbrush to get close to the mirror and toilet. Since we were putting a lighter color on a darker color, two coats were necessary.
And I want to know, can any paint only be applied in one coat? I don't think so! Then the most difficult part of the painting took place, and no, it wasn't someone using the bathroom. It was painting the wall where it met the ceiling. At first I tried a tiny paintbrush, the kind you would give a child to paint on a piece of paper. That was frustrating. It only held a drop of paint and it wasn't heavy enough to apply pressure to paint. Then Chris bought a $7 brush that worked perfectly. Soon I was feeling like Michelangelo after painting the Sistine Chapel.
All of this to say that this is how I see Jesus working in my life and in the lives of others.
When we give the keys to our lives to Him, He takes possession and begins for some, total remodeling and in others, redecorating. For some parts of our lives, Jesus can use broad sweeps of a paint roller. Other times He has to painstakingly use a small brush with a lot of effort to create beauty. Either stroke has to be done in a cooperative manner. You have to want Jesus to create His image in your life. It's a description of 2 Corinthians 5:17- "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old (old paint job) has gone, the new (fresh paint) has come!" So let Jesus paint His color into your life.
Also, family and the rest of the Ebenezer group that went to the Philippines return today. More on that experience later.
Plus the weather looks great for a Campus Life Pool Party tonight!! Yeah!!!
These are the days my friend,
Jim "Train"
