Team! Team! Team!
I've had the wonderful experience of coaching football at Pandora-Gilboa High School for 16 years. The last 4 years, I've been a volunteer pigskin coach for Bluffton Junior High. In fact, I just finished a coaching session and feel a bit sweaty with all this high humidity and heat. In football, it takes 11 players to do their job to have a successful play. The offensive linemen have to block so that the quarterback can have a good handoff to the running back who has to secure the ball so as not to fumble and then has to run behind the blocks to gain yardage. You can see by this long run on sentence that a lot happens at the snap of the ball. Everybody has a job to do and has to depend on the other players doing what's required of them. Also football is a game of movement. If you don't move, you lose. Thus you do all sorts of drills to help your players to move forwards, backwards, and laterally, all without getting tired!
I see ministry the same way. It takes a group of people willing to do their jobs so that all might benefit. This is the point that the Apostle Paul is teaching in 1 Corinthians 12 - we all have gifts. So use your gifts to benefit the Body. I am so grateful for all the volunteers we have in Bluffton/Pandora YFC. It looks like we'll be adding four more with Brittany, Dustin, Krysten, and Sara. This will mean that we'll have a least 25 adults who will love and care for kids. We're also a living, moving group. Just like you have to move in football to be successful, so you have to move in ministry. You go where kids are at. You call one time and email the next. You find out their needs and morph accordingly. You have to move! So here's looking forward to a new school year with a team geared up to make a difference through Jesus Christ. I can't wait to huddle with the team at The Bluffton Campus Life Room on Sunday, August 27th from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm, which includes a picnic! What football player, I mean, YFC person doesn't like to eat. It's the TEAM! The TEAM!! The TEAM!!!
These are the days my friend,
